Trib Needs to Get A Clue, TV Ratings Numbers

Fun fact: This blog breaks Power news faster than any other outlet in Pittsburgh.

Just stumbled across a piece from Thursday's Tribune Review reporting on Morris being placed on IR. They also reported that Morelli was "likely" to be signed.

We have it confirmed, from team officials, that the Power were bringing in Morelli and Morris was going on the IR on Wednesday morning.

If the Trib can't even read Twitter, who can you trust?

Criticisms aside, they also reported on the TV ratings from the Iowa game, which was in direct competition with the Pitt - Butler NCAA tournament game. The average rating was 1.4 - approximately 16,500 households. Not too shabby, all things considered. After the Pitt game, it seems everyone migrated back over to check out the remainder of the game, as the end drew a very strong 2.7 rating.

They say Pittsburgh only supports major league teams. The attendance numbers (highest combined in the AFL after two weeks) as well as the TV ratings only go to prove that Arena Football is emerging as a major league sport in this city.

Even worse...the "Home for your Pittsburgh Power" 93.7 The Fan had a caller yesterday ask Vinnie and Cook why they never talk about the Power.

Vinnie and Cook said there's not much buzz about the team in this town. Ever think there'd be more buzz if you TALKED ABOUT THE DAMN TEAM!

I know Troy reads this blog. Troy I'll tell you right now that creating buzz would be huge for this team. The attendance and TV ratings show there's interest in the Power. So talk about it!

What do the Penguins draw for TV ratings?

I wish I could have had a voice on that call, I would have told them that there ARE people out there talking about the Power. It's called the Power Plant!

Man I hate Vinnie and Cook. They don't talk about arena football because they don't KNOW arena football. Of course what DOES Vinnie actually know about?

I feel mostly the same Voice. I wonder what the deal with CBS radio to carry Power games looks like. The exposure is nice, but the promotion is even less than they do for Pitt, which is very little.

Well I know the deal included Bubba from CBS Radio getting the PA announcer positon. I imagine it also prevents other media outlets from broadcasting games and keeping it all within CBS Radio/TV

Seeing as Megan Wolfley got the job as an on air host during the radio broadcasts, that has something to do with Craig Wolfey being involved as well. Nepotism at it's finest.

I do have to wonder just how much information the team itself is putting out there. If the Media Relations person isn't a full timer, then info may only be going out via Twitter. Can't talk about stuff if you aren't told about it.

I'm trying like mad to be one of the most knowledgeable people on Arena Football in this town. Hopefully it pays off.

HEY THE TRIB NEEDS TO GET THEIR HEADS OUT OF THEIR ASSES AND START GETTING SOME REAL COVERAGE GOING FOR THESE GUYS. THE POST GAZETTE NEEDS TO STEP IT UP TOO AND VINNIE AND COOK NEED TO TALK ABOUT THEM SOME MORE THE POWER'S GOING ALL THE WAY THIS YEAR.

IT'S GOOD TO SEE ANTHONY MORELLI FINALLY PLAYIN BALL IN PITTSBURGH. HE SHOULD HAVE NEVER LEFT. HELL IF IT WEREN'T FOR THOSE JAGONS UP IN THE PITT ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT HE PROBABLY WOULDN'T HAVE.

Donnie - We'll see how Morelli does. Hopefully we don't need him.

Agreed, although the team has been getting slightly more press since we ran this piece.

I just got off the phone with Mike Barker from TribLive Radio. They want me to do a Pittsburgh Power Talk Show to appear on their internet radio.

Hopefully this will get me media credentials and I can provide a lot of coverage between this and the Power Plant Radio show.

So to me it does seem as if the trib Media group is trying to expand their coverage.
